American Idol Shocker

“And the person, leaving us tonight is… Pia.”  That was devastating news that American Idol host Ryan Seacrest had to give.

The judges, Randy Jackson, Steven Tyler, and Jennifer Lopez were appalled. After the show Jennifer said to Pia, “I wish there was something we could do!  I really do!”

The night of Thursday, April 7, the day after Pia’s killer performance of “River Deep Mountain High”, she was the first contestant sent to the bottom three.

After this surprise, Stefano and Pia were in the bottom two. Then we get the results. Could it be true…Pia is going home.

The audience was mad, the judges were mad, and Stefano was in disbelief.  He thought he should have gone home.

The question still remains, “What happened, America?” Is it because a huge part of the American Idol audience is female, and they are drawn to all of the “hot” guy contestants?

As Niamo Adedapo said during her exit interview after her elimination from ‘Idol’ on March 31, "When it comes down to it, the reality is that more than 50% of the audience is little teenage girls and once they get a crush, we're done.”  No one really knows, but this speculation could have some weight to it.

Pia was an incredibly beautiful, amazing performer, and despite her leaving, she will have a phenomenal career and will be a big success.  With support from stars all over the country like Tom Hanks, Jennifer Hudson, and Alyssa Milano, in addition to her huge fan base, Pia has already won.

Maybe since Pia is no longer a contestant on American Idol, she can get a jump-start on her career before the American Idol tour begins.

American Idol Shocker... Again
By Nicole Sills, Grade 9

As if couldn’t get any worse…it did. Once again, another incredibly talented favorite left American Idol on April 14. My one question is, “America, why do you keep letting this happen?”

After all of the other remaining contestants were told they were safe, Stefano and Paul were the only two left on stage waiting to hear their fate.

You might get the impression that Stefano would be going home because he has been in the bottom three so many times, and from the look on his face, he probably expected that very result. But no, the last words the handsome duo heard on that Idol stage were, “And the person leaving us tonight is…Paul.”

Let me tell you, not very many people were happy about this one either, including me. Paul had such a unique voice and personality, and he easily could have been identified as a young Rod Stewart.

Stefano’s repeated apologies to Paul on stage confirmed that once again he thought he should have gone home. You have to wonder, how come America is not voting for these people? Maybe the judges are too positive with all of the contestants this year, but it appears the real favorites seem to be taking an early flight home.

The only thing left to say could be, if you watch American Idol and are a frequent voter or not, now is the time to make sure you get on board and don’t forget to vote. Your favorite contestant may be the next person to leave American Idol.

The good news we can pull from this, however, for the second week in a row is because Paul, like Pia, is so talented and unique and has a personality larger than life; we will be seeing and hearing a lot of him.

See you on the tour, Paul!
