Leadership Skills Development Class
By Rosemary Reynolds, Grade 9

If you are interested in earning 100 service hours and becoming a success in all areas of your life, then the Leadership Skills Development Class just might be the course for you! It’s even better because of our influential instructor,  Mr. Williams.

I just completed the Leadership Skills Development Class, and I would highly recommend it to anyone. It has made such a difference in my life, and I also earned a credit for it! My last assignment in the LSP course was a reflection of the class. I would like to share it with you, in hopes that you might consider joining!

I came into the Leadership Skills Development course excited about earning 100 service hours, and am coming out with the tools, motivation, and knowledge I need to be successful in anything I do. Truthfully, I would have never guessed that the LSP would be such a wonderful course! The Lincoln Group has been the best, and I've learned so much from both our group meetings and combined meetings with the King Group. Joanna and Christy have been active, knowledgeable, and fun students to work with. When the King Group joined us on Wednesday nights for the combined meeting, I thoroughly enjoyed having Diana and Daniel join us. Their insight and opinion added to the learning experience.

Last night, I watched a documentary called "Don't Fail Me: Education in America". In this documentary, hundreds of students from schools throughout the country participated in the FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. The students worked together in teams to produce a robot that could participate actively in a timed competition: Moving around the course, picking up tubes with its extending arm, and raising them to place the tubes on hooks. To successfully prepare their robot, every team must collaborate and work as efficiently as possible. After the Leadership Service Program, I feel that if Christy, Joanna, Diana, Daniel, and I were put on a team together to accomplish something like this, we would be able to succeed and possibly win the competition. We've developed a strong bond as a group throughout the course of the LSP, and I feel that combined, anything is possible.

The LSP has also taught me that I can accomplish many things individually. The course has given me tools to manage my schedule, work collaboratively in a group, resolve conflicts, and more. These have prepared me for the business world, and I am sure that I will be much more successful because of the LSP.

The other reason for this course being such a success is our much-appreciated instructor, Mr. Williams. He has made such a difference in my life, and has been a great role model. At our last meeting, he mentioned, "When I was down, you brought me up. When I was not having a good day, you made it all better." Mr. Williams, you did the same for us. When I had a really bad day and nothing was going right, you lifted me up and made my day a great one. I wish you the most success in your future endeavors, and also in the LSP! It has certainly had a wonderful start, and I am very proud to be a part of it.

“We will receive not what we idly wish for, but what we justly earn. Our rewards will always be in exact proportion to our service.” This quote by Earl Nightingale reflects exactly what I have learned in the Leadership Skills Development course. I have put a lot of time and effort into the LSP, and the rewards are truly astounding. I cannot thank you enough for what you have done for me. Know that I will stay in touch, and look forward to seeing some of the LSP members at Club Day, along with our fearless leader, Mr. Williams! You have all made a difference in my life, and it has been a wonderful one.

Thank you, Mr. Williams.
