New iPod Touch Apps
By Rachael Britton, Grade 9

The Apple iPod Touch was released into stores on September 5th, 2007. Since then, Apple Incorporated has sold over 32 million iPod Touches as of the end of 2009. It has definitely come a long way! But an iPod Touch is not at all complete without a couple of good apps (to those of us who are less technically inclined, “applications”) to go with it. Apple comes out with hundreds of new apps every year, but only a couple make the big time, so to speak.

An exciting new app called FaceTime has been introduced to the iTouch community recently. FaceTime is basically like a video call, but has many more cool features. The iTouch has two cameras; one on the front and one on the back, so you can shoot yourself while still seeing the other person’s face on the iTouch screen or shoot your friends with the camera on the back. It’s very easy to get started. Download the app and follow the set up instructions. Let’s say you want to talk to your friend across town. Start up FaceTime and choose your friends entry. Then an invitation will pop up on your friends iPod Touch or iPhone4 screen asking if they want to join you in the video call. Once they tap yes, it’s all good from there. It’s a useful and fun app to have! For more information, visit http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/features/facetime.html

Another new app is especially for the more artistic audience. It’s called HD Video Recording. In beautiful definition, you can shoot, edit, and share your videos without having to have your computer near by. It’s all possible with the HD Video Recording App. You can do just about anything with this app, from taking and editing pictures, to recording yourself with the front facing video recorder. One more popular app is the Glee Karaoke app. Sing along, the option of recording and sharing you voice, with your favorite Glee characters to your favourite Glee renditions of songs like, “Defying Gravity”, “Poker Face”, and “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. iPad2: The Revolution Continues
By Bryan Benz, Grade 9

The new Apple iPad2 has just been released to the public!

This new iPad from Apple is smaller than the old one. It also comes with a dual-core A5 chip from Apple, which makes it a faster device. Not only is it small and fast, but it also comes with a couple of new features on it, like the cameras on the front and back which can take pictures and record video files. This is like holding a computer and iPod in your hands, because it has both features in one. The battery in this iPad also lasts at least 10 hours, so you can take it basically anywhere in the world. If you are with the cell phone company Verizon or AT&T, you can go anywhere with web, not just Wi-Fi.

Apple also thought about the environment when making this product; they added a mercury-free LED backlight, and the iPad2 is entirely PVC and BFR free. I agree with and like this new product that Apple made, especially since it is also environmentally friendly.

There are multiple differences between the old one and this new iPad. One of the reasons is the new iPad2 has the feature to FaceTime with Apple computers, iPod touch, and other devices. Since Apple has made this new device, there are multiple competitors like Android, Blackberry, and T-Mobile that are trying to copy the idea of Apple. However, only T-Mobile has achieved success with that.

People all over the world are using these devices right now to communicate with others and use the Web. You can also do business tasks, or use fun applications from the Apple application store. There is also iTunes on the iPad2 that allows you to download music and videos that you can listen to or watch on your device.

Let's not forget about iOS 4.3. Also, Google and RIM are apples only real competition. Intel was making a mobile OS called meambo for Nokia phones, but Nokia backed out and signed a contract with Microsoft, making wp7 the os powering future Nokia phones. It will be interesting to see how this all pans out.
